The Press Democrat, winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news coverage, is seeking a reporter to cover education and the lives of young people in Sonoma County. You will drive coverage of the county’s K-12 school systems, which shape the future of 70,000 students, and the region’s California State University campus and community college, which prepare 30,000 students for life and work in a changing world. You will also be responsible for developing stories on cultural, economic, technological and demographic forces that are impacting young people — and the way they and their families are responding to them.

We are a healthy locally owned newspaper that values original ideas, aggressive reporting, authoritative writing and watchdog coverage that leads to change. Any member of our reporting team must know how to juggle daily stories, online posts, social media interaction and long-term enterprise and investigative projects. Data acquisition, analysis and presentation skills are a plus, as is fluency in Spanish.
