Sonoma Media Investments, publisher of The Press Democrat and the North Bay Business Journal, is proud to recognize and honor the contributions of local small businesses to our community.

Small Business Week this year is officially May 13 through 18.
Some quick facts about the impact of small businesses:
– Nearly 95 percent of Sonoma County businesses are small businesses with 100 employees or fewer.
– Of the 13,000 businesses in Sonoma County, only 575 have more than 50 employees.
– More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business.
– They create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.
– The states with the highest percentage of small businesses are California, New York and Florida.
– Small businesses pay 44 percent of the nation’s payroll.
– 60 to 80 percent of all new jobs come from small businesses.
